Tannat was introduced to Uruguay by settlers from the Basque country in 1870, and it soon became the national grape variety of the country!
Winemaker Gabriel Pisano has tamed the fierce tannins normally associated with Tannat producing a soft, juicy and approachable wine with beautifully ripened fruit, A medium bodies red with aromas of strawberry, blackberry and lemon zest.
It pairs best with rich, fatty foods to balance its intensity, specifically flame-grilled red meats (asado), pork BBQ ribs, venison, and hard cheeses. It also complements earthy, roasted root vegetables.
