Lloyd's Wines is a wholly independent wine retailer and family run business, offering expert wine knowledge and a truly unique tasting experience.
OUR HISTORY
1999 :
Simon first started working in wine back in 1999, establishing Purple Wines in the UK.
2002 - 2010 :
Simon and Sally moved their young family to France, and continued Purple Wines on French soil. Simon sold mainly French wine to French people at markets in and around Paris. He also visited small family-run vineyards and larger community-run co-operatives and Wine Exhibitions in Paris, Bordeaux and Ampuis, whilst studying with WSET, to discover the wines he was happy to add to his Portfolio and establish partnerships that continue today.
2011 :
A work opportunity brought Simon back to the UK, after Purple Wines was shut down following the 2008 financial crisis. Simon spent a few years working in sales in different companies, but the pull of the vine was too strong.
2015 :
Lloyd's Wines was set up in November 2015 to provide high quality wines for retail and online sales to private customers. The whole family having moved back to the family farm in the UK, it was all hands on deck to get the business up and running. We originally sold wine mainly from France using Simon's established network of suppliers, but by the end of the year our range expanded to include wines from the UK, as well as other parts of the world.
2016 :
Due to popular demand we started the wholesale arm of the business, supplying local pubs and restaurants, which expanded into London and the home counties. We also started supplying sports clubs, stores, farm shops and leisure sites with bespoke wine lists, individually chosen with their customers in mind.
2019 :
We spent 12 weeks converting a stable block on the farm into a quirky wine shop, The Stables at Lloyd's Wines. Once the doors opened, we soon began to use the space to host wine tasting events and private parties. We also started working with other local wine specialists to further develop our offering.
2020 :
During the pandemic, we supported the local community with a delivery and click and collect service. We also used this time to convert a horse trailer into the Lloyd's Wines Bar Box, which we now take to corporate and private events, such as Company Openings, Weddings, Food Fayres and Fetes.
2023 :
With an ever growing wine list and busy calendar of events, our family business is thriving and we are excited for the coming years at Lloyd's Wines!

This wine is from the Chateau featured in the film 'A Good Year', with Russell Crowe, celebrating rural french life and all that is best in food and drink.

Favourite grape - Carignan.
Introduced to this grape at Domaine de Chandelles. 'La Flame Noir des Chandelles' was insanely delicious and was the wine that made me believe that I could enjoy drinking red wine!

Favourite wine - Triebaumer Blaufrankisch Reserve.
This is wine is SO good that Tim chose it to taste as one of his Christmas Wine Club specials, to drink on Christmas day and on New Years Eve last year. He has even laid a few bottles down to celebrate his significant birthday in a couple of years time!
